SBANE names eight Innovation Awards winners

The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE) has named six companies and two non-profits - ranging from software makers to biotechs to cleantech companies - as the best innovative companies in our region.

The not-for-profit association, which aims to give a legislative voice for small business, announced the winners of the 2013 SBANE New England Innovation Awards Wednesday evening at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, Mass. Robert Baker, president, said the award-winning companies “possess the most explosive growth potential to expand our economic base.”

“The health of the New England Economy depends upon the creative forces of innovation to drive capital formation and job creation,” he said.

The eight winners were winnowed in two rounds of judging from more than 200 which presented at an initial round on March 21 at SBANE’s headquarters in Waltham. On April 10, a panel of 70 judges chose four winners in the “profit” category, two in the “non-profit” category, and two companies were honored as “rising stars” which are in the early stage of development and have “clearly demonstrated the validity of their business.”

“All of our winners have exemplified what SBANE considers true industry agnostic innovation and we are delighted that they have joined an exclusive group of tremendous companies and organizations from throughout New England in SBANE’s ‘Circle of Excellence’” said Todd Faber, president of The Faber Group and SBANE’s New England Innovation Awards Committee Chairman.
