N.C. Treasurer Janet Cowell to join ChannelAdvisor board

North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell is about to get a new job title: board member.

Cowell, who has already announced that she is not seeking another term as treasurer, is joining the ChannelAdvisor board as its eighth member.

As part of her appointment, Cowell will be granted a restricted stock unit award currently valued at $150,000. That award vests on March 1, 2017, as long as she is still on the board. Additionally, she’ll be entitled to receive a $50,000 annual retainer for her service as director.

According to a securities filing released late Monday by the Morrisville-based technology firm, Cowell’s term as board member will expire in 2017.

Prior to being elected as Treasurer in 2008, Cowell served on the Raleigh City Council. She also worked at Corning Inc, Sibson & Co, SJF Ventures, HSBC Holdings plc and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

Cowell’s term as treasurer, where she manages the state's $87 billion pension fund, ends in January 2017.
