ATV Congratulates Dr. Richard Popp, Recipient of the Prestigious Rambam Award

Award Recognizes Dr. Popp’s Leadership, Dedication, and Contributions to the Global Healthcare Community

BOSTON, MA and PALO ALTO, CA, June 8, 2012 – Advanced Technology Ventures (ATV) today extended its congratulations to Dr. Richard Popp, the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Rambam Award, honoring “exceptional individuals for their prodigious contributions to science, medicine, and technology, as well as for their leadership and contributions to humanity.”  Dr. Popp received the honor this week at the Rambam Summit at Technion University’s Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Israel. 

A world renowned cardiologist credited with the original development of ultrasound for the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac conditions, Dr. Popp is a Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, and the Director of Ethics and Policy for Stanford’s BioDesign Innovation Program.  He has over 300 scientific publications and book chapters and has held many senior leadership positions, including President of the American College of Cardiology, President of the Association of University Cardiologists, and Chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Cardiovascular Diseases Subspecialty Board.  In 2001, The American Society of Echocardiography established the annual “Richard Popp Award” honoring “a physician who epitomizes the ideal qualities of a mentor and role model.“

Dr. Popp also serves as a Venture Partner with ATV, providing investment recommendations in the healthcare field as well as strategic recommendations to both ATV and its portfolio of healthcare companies.
